Hail To The Three Kings, Baby

HailKings

Summer has come to its end.  The humidity has died, and the sweeping rains kiss the ground.  Fall is biting at summer’s heels, and this year begs to end.  And with it, we say good-bye to characters never to be forgotten, legends forever in these three television shows.

3. Dexter

The lives of heroes have met us across the page and screen.  Origin has touched us deeply, their beginning, and now, they meet their end.  But the ink of some heroes falls under darkness, complexity, and lines blurred together.  And the code is broken, but life has changed.  Promise and love are the light against nothing, but a bitter edge could easily slice everything apart.  And all that could be left is blood, his remains, and police lights flash in the distance.  Will they know, and if they did, what world awaits, shattered by his true identity?  Or will the bullet hit the bone before his story is told?  What villains will rise to take him down, or will this hero refuse to fall?  And will Dexter live to kill again?

2. Burn Notice

My name is Michael Westen, a name that echoes like a sound of thunder across the journey that has led to here.  Many lives have been lost.  Chaos has reigned.  Monsters have reared their ugly head, but then they burned away, stabbed through the heart.  The gun is waiting, and the bullet calls his name.  But he’s far from done.  Lives are still on the line, and freedom is the ticking clock counting down to where those prison walls await.  And a choice has to be made.  Does he remain dark, or will the old Michael Westen rise and risk all again?  And will love meet him there, and we wait, tingle with anticipation and fear, and we wonder how this journey will meet its end.

1. Breaking Bad

“There’s no normal life,” Doc Holliday said.  “It’s just life,” but most of us live as we think we should.  But one man stands alone.  One man annihilates those walls of normality, pushing the limits, and redefining himself, and there’s no going back.  And he doesn’t want to go back.  This is his world now.  Nobody defies him, and those left alive would never reveal the truth, his identity.  But secrets surface across the page, and suspicion becomes obsession.  He knows, and the chase has begun.  But before those prison bars can slam shut, will death come on swift wings, or will the twists and turns to come pave the road that will wind back to where it all began?  Will the bonds of family become nothing more than jagged pieces of what he once clung so to, and we flash forward.  Home is no longer where the heart resides, and survival rests with guns and bullets in the trunk.  And he waits.  He waits for those last chapters to unfold, and we wait with him, haunted with each approach, and forever chilled, if his name were whispered, “Heisenberg.”
